Where Do Your Fingers Go on the Saxophone?

So how exactly do you hold this thing?? In this lesson we are going to review the proper way to hold a saxophone and the correct positioning for all your fingers.

Key Points:

All we need during the beginning phases of playing the saxophone is the first three fingers on each hand, and the left thumb.

The first key at the top that has a rounded top (instead of being concaved in), is very rarely used, and should be skipped for now. The first three fingers of your left hand will rest on the keys right below that one.

The left thumb goes on the upper thumb rest and operates the octave key.

Right hand thumb goes under the lower thumb rest, then the first three fingers rest on the lower keys.
